Answered

Skincare routine questions, answered

How do I know my skin type?
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, wait an hour, then look. Shine across the whole face means oily; tightness or flaking means dry; shine only on the forehead and nose means combination; stinging, redness, or reactivity to new products means sensitive. The quiz walks you through the same checks in two minutes.
What order should I apply skincare products in?
Thinnest to thickest: cleanser, toner, water-based serum, treatment, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen last in the morning. At night sunscreen is replaced by a richer cream or facial oil, which seals everything underneath.
How many steps does a routine actually need?
Three is enough for most people: cleanse, treat, protect. Extra steps only earn their place if they solve a specific problem. The quiz offers a simple three-step ritual and an advanced five-step version so you can choose the level you will realistically keep.
How long before a new routine shows results?
Hydration and texture improve within one to two weeks. Acne, pigment, and fine lines run on skin-cell turnover, so give actives eight to twelve weeks of consistent use before judging them.
Is the routine builder free?
Yes. The quiz, the generated AM and PM routines, saved routines, and the PDF download are all free. Product links are affiliate links, which is how the site is funded — they never change which products the routine picks.
How does the quiz decide my routine?
Each answer narrows the recommendation set. Skin type sets the cleanser and moisturizer textures, your concerns choose the actives, skin tone flags pigment or sun risks, and the audience step applies safety guardrails such as no retinoids during pregnancy or for teens. The routine is then ordered thinnest to thickest for morning and night.
Do I need an account to take the quiz?
No. The quiz runs entirely in your browser, your answers are saved locally so you can resume where you left off, and you can download or email the finished routine without signing up.
